Worcester State Hospital

Bloomingdale Asylum was built in 1833 in Worcester Massachusetts. After years of over crowding the state decided to build a massive new hospital around the same location. In 1870 and completed in 1877 the new Worcester Luntic Hospital was finished. Built in the kirkbride plan it was the one of the largest complexs built in the state at the time. Set on a hill over viewing a beautiful landscape, secluded from city life to snap patients out of there world into reality. In 1991 a massive fire started in the hospital. It destroyed all of the west wings and parts of the East wings also. The administration building and half of the Eastern wings is all at remains. The remaining blocks that were left over were used to board up the complex that survived the fire.
